the meaning of which we have been unable to decipher

but had a slightly longer case

Originally patented in 1858, these became very popular on the River Boats of the great Mississippi river in the 1870's. They were often used by gamblers and others who would require protection on the often dark decks. Fully nickel plated of which most remains, having just a 3" barrel and 4 3 4 overall, this was ideal for a waistcoat pocket. The barrel top strap is marked with the Remington Address: REMINGTON ARMS CO.
